9 Days Left in Obama's Presidency

Memory 2: On February 27, 2014, President Obama made a commitment to boys and young men of color by launching the My Brother’s Keeper Initiative.

The president acknowledged that boys and young men of color deserved an opportunity to reach their full potential earlier in life. The goals of the program are to ensure that these individuals receive mentorship, a network, are guided through the process to excel academically and be able to provide for themselves and their future families.

During his first term, President Obama did not get involved much with race relations, but it has been rewarding to see him as an icon and role model for so many in communities of color. By launching My Brother's Keeper, President Obama has set a standard for the importance of giving back and help these young men reach their full potential. When that goal is realized, the individuals benefiting from the program will be in a position to better serve in the workforce, at home, and in their communities.
