Clinton's Health: A Never Ending Conspiracy

Clinton's Health: A Never Ending Conspiracy

Health scares are not uncommon occurrences. But when the subject of a health related scare conveniently feeds an ugly, non-fact based narrative, the scare is magnified tenfold. On Sunday, New York City honored the thousands of individuals who perished in the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack, with a memorial to mark the fifteenth anniversary. Democratic presidential candidate, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was in attendance. Unfortunately, Sec. Clinton’s visit was cut short due to illness.

According to her campaign, Sec. Clinton “overheated” during the ceremony. After honoring 9/11 victims for approximately 70 minutes, Clinton left the memorial and headed straight for Chelsea’s (daughter of Sec. Clinton) nearby apartment.

Personal physician, Dr. Lisa Bardack, later examined Clinton. Sunday afternoon Dr. Bardack released this statement, “Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule… While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”

For the past several weeks Trump supporting conspiracy peddlers like Alex Jones, InfoWars, Drudge and Breitbart, have mounted an effective smear campaign targeting Clinton’s health as worthy of the highest scrutiny. These conspiracy sources masquerading as news, fail to curb their political ideology when delivering information – resulting in malfeasance for maintaining journalistic integrity. Despite facts discrediting their “reporting” Jones, Drudge, and Breitbart continue to spread falsehoods surrounding Clinton’s health. Trump himself has claimed Clinton's health is a concern, repeating the line, "Hillary Clinton doesn't have the strength or the stamina to be president." His speculation of her health has resonated with a growing community of folks who already distrust Clinton.

By refusing to follow Dr. Bardack’s instructions to modify her schedule, Clinton allowed this conspiracy-born controversy to survive another news cycle. While the spotlight will remain on Clinton's health in coming days, it is important to note that Mr. Trump's health is a legitimate mystery. Dr. Harold Bornstein a gastroenterologist and personal doctor to the 70 year-old Republican candidate, produced a four-paragraph one page letter describing Trump's health. Dr. Bornstein's letter has been the subject of several news reports, as revelations of its outrageous derivation were exposed by NBC News. How the Clinton and Trump campaign in addition to the media react to this incident, will determine whether Clinton is compelled to release comprehensive official medical records. Till then, expect endless headlines focusing on the health of Sec. Clinton and her fitness to serve.
